Companion Animals Veterinarian - Full & Part Time Positions

Associate Veterinarian – Companion Animals.

Here at the Ballarat Veterinary Practice, we are proudly the first clinic in Australia to have achieved Employer of Choice accreditation through the Australian Veterinary Association.

We asked our veterinarians to tell us what is most important to them, and we know that:

  • work/life balance,
  • challenging and interesting case load, and
  • a supportive working environment, are key to a fulfilling veterinary career.

In our clinics, veterinarians work a true eight-day fortnight with no on-call requirements. That’s right, you get three whole days off per week to spend time exploring what our major regional city of Ballarat has to offer. For more on that, we encourage you head over this site to find out more about living and working in Ballarat.

Our location means that our case load is interesting and varied – no two days are the same, so there’s ample opportunity for learning, growth and absolutely no room for boredom. Across our group of six clinics, you can advance your skills and grow your career – we guarantee it.

The satisfaction of our team and our clinic culture is incredibly important to us, and we pride ourselves on the support, mentoring, training opportunities and other benefits we provide to our team. With monthly journal clubs, weekly team meetings, generous study allowance and extra paid leave for study, we provide the framework to support our team to be the best they can be.

We offer you a really generous salary and plenty of other perks, but it’s the work/life balance and the lifestyle that we know you’ll love, especially for those with family commitments who need that extra bit of flexibility.

We are currently seeking both full-time and part-time Small Animal Veterinarians, so if you wish to apply for a position in one of our clinics, or seek some more information please contact Claire McAteer via careers@bvp.com.au

Equine Ambulatory & Racetrack Veterinarian

Compassion | Respect | Professionalism | Teamwork

The Ballarat Veterinary Practice Equine clinic is a 14-vet privately owned practice based on the edge of the Ballarat Turf Club Racing & Training Centre, where 800 horses are trained, and 36 race meetings are held each year.  There is also a large standardbred population, with 40 meetings held per year at the local harness track. The clinic provides a hospital based surgical and imaging referral service, and is the base for the ambulatory services provided to the racetrack and general equine clients in the surrounding district.

The hospital also has an internship program with four interns currently employed. The practice conducts regular visits to neighbouring racing regions and has a satellite five-vet equine clinic based in Warrnambool.

The position available is for a member of the racetrack and ambulatory team, which provides service to all breeds of horses from thoroughbreds, standardbreds and sport horses, through to pleasure horses and ponies in the district.

As well as racing stable work, typical general practice equine work is also undertaken including lameness assessment, dentistry, lacerations, reproductive work including ultrasound scanning, field colic assessment and all general veterinary equine work. Due to the size of the practice and level of experience there is strong support for our ambulatory veterinarians at all times.

The practice has three specialist surgeons available for consultation and assistance with referral of cases.  The clinic has full surgical facilities, ultrasound, digital radiography, endoscopy, scintigraphy and standing MRI facilities and the ability to house up to 28 horses.

Remuneration is dependent on experience, however the package starts at $110,000 which includes base salary, superannuation, and an estimate of extra after-hours commissions, as well as a car and phone for business and reasonable personal use. Also included in the remuneration package is Australian Veterinary Association membership and an annual Continuing Education stipend of $2,000 per annum.  We support and encourage applicants to pursue certificate and membership qualifications.  We also assist with visa applications and relocation logistics, including a relocation allowance of $1,500.

Ballarat is a thriving regional city, rich in history and culture.  It is the perfect place to settle with all of the convenience of city life, but with postcard-perfect scenic beauty, and less hustle and bustle than Melbourne – while still only being an hour and a half drive from all Melbourne has to offer.  With highly sought-after private schools, and excellent health care, Victoria’s largest inland city has everything you need.
